2020 CCI Internship Awards Announced

The Center for Civic Innovation recognized 4 Interns for their outstanding efforts this summer.

The annual Bud Ahearn Leadership Award is named in honor of the late Joseph "Bud" Ahearn, distinguished Notre Dame Alumnus and supporter of the CCI Internship Program. Awardees exemplify Bud's principles of leadership, selflessness and service to others, and commitment to fostering meaningful relationships.

  • The 2020 Bud Ahearn Leadership Award recipient for South Bend was Emma Kirner, a recent graduate from John Adams High School who will be attending Notre Dame in the fall studying Neuroscience and Behavioral Sciences. Emma was part of the Safe and Healthy Housing Team.
     
  • The 2020 Bud Ahearn Leadership Award recipient for Elkhart was Madison Ward, a rising Senior at Indiana University South Bend who is majoring in Public Relations with minors in Sociology and Graphic Design. Madison was part of the Elkhart County Food Project team and worked on the Elkhart County River Dam Sign sub-team.

The inaugural Gary Gilot Award for Civil Service is named in honor of CCI Internship Program co-founder and current volunteer project mentor Gary Gilot. Awardees exemplify Gary's principles of a heart for civil service, servant leadership mindset, and doing things 'with' and not 'for' or 'to' the community.

  • The 2020 Gary Gilot Civil Service award recipient for South Bend was Sydney Granlund, a rising Senior at Indiana University in Bloomington majoring in Environmental Management with a minor in Law and Public Policy. Sydney was part of the dataMichiana team.
     
  • The 2020 Gary Gilot Civil Service award recipient for Elkhart was Lisa Nalliah, a rising Sophomore at Goshen College majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Chemistry. Lisa was a part of the Elkhart Recycling Analysis team and worked on the Tolson Center Rain Garden Design Project sub-team.
