For Summer 2022 we will be welcoming 54 college and high school students to work on 13 community identified projects in the South Bend - Elkhart Region.  Students will work for 8 weeks for 35 hours totaling 15,120 hours of community engagement.  30 local professionals will provide technical mentorship and guidance to each of our teams for one hour a week, totaling 240 mentorship hours.

In South Bend we are continuing our partnership with the Engineering Department at City of South Bend who are embedding their 6 engineering interns in our program. An additional 28 interns will continue partnering with organizations such as 100 Black Men of Greater South Bend and the Robinson Community Learning Center and SOAR as well as Notre Dame Faculty.

In Elkhart interns will have the opportunity to work with professionals from Elkhart High School, City of Elkhart, Bushcraft Farm and Thor Industries. We are also excited to announce our Elkhart Cohort will be based in the Engineering, Technology, and Innovation building at Elkhart High School West.

At the start of the internship program students will participate in a week-long orientation that includes guest speakers covering topics such as project management, design thinking, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), leadership, mental health, and teambuilding. The following 6 weeks the students will be tasked with managing their own project co-developed by CCI and community partners and will be responsible for budgeting, meeting facilitation, project design and implementation and close out. The last week of the program the interns will showcase their hard work with a final celebration including an oral presentation and poster session for community partners, friends, and family.
