On Saturday, April 2nd 2022, 20 students from the University of Notre Dame volunteered with CCI staff members for a day of service to improve the interior and exterior of the building at 1045 W. Washington St. in South Bend. Volunteers painted walls in the youth tutoring program space, weeded and mulched the butterfly garden and Unity Garden to prepare to grow fresh fruits and vegetables for youth program families to enjoy, and cleared out storage for supplies for art programming.
"It was so great to have several students come to our site and help make improvements that will better the services we offer to the community. Students were not only hardworking but interested and engaged in the work that we do," said CCI's internship program manager for South Bend, Lauren Lounsbury.
