The Center for Civic Innovation recognized 4 Interns for their outstanding efforts this summer.
The annual Bud Ahearn Leadership Award is named in honor of the late Joseph "Bud" Ahearn, distinguished Notre Dame Alumnus and supporter of the CCI Internship Program. Awardees exemplify Bud's principles of leadership, selflessness and service to others, and commitment to fostering meaningful relationships.
- The 2021 Bud Ahearn Leadership Award recipient for South Bend was Marilyn Zizumbo, an Environmental Engineering major from the University of Notre Dame working on the Rum Village Traffic Calming intern team.
- The 2021 Bud Ahearn Leadership Award recipient for Elkhart was Grace Wetli, a Chemical Engineering major from the University of Notre Dame working on the Advanced Manufacturing intern team.
The Gary Gilot Award for Civil Service is named in honor of CCI Internship Program co-founder and current volunteer project mentor Gary Gilot. Awardees exemplify Gary's principles of a heart for civil service, servant leadership mindset, and doing things 'with' and not 'for' or 'to' the community.
- The 2021 Gary Gilot Civil Service award recipient for South Bend was John Healy, an Electrical Engineering major from the University of Notre Dame working on the datamichiana intern team.
- The 2021 Gary Gilot Civil Service award recipient for Elkhart was Miguel Sanchez, a Liberal Arts major from Ivy Tech Community College working on the Tolson Neighborhood intern team.
