ELKHART, Ind. — The Community Foundation of Elkhart County has awarded the Center for Civic Innovation (CCI) an award of $75,261 (first year of a two-year commitment) for its FY ‘21 award cycle.

The award will help the CCI in delivering its 8-week summer internship Program in 2021 and 2022 by funding 32 internships for area high school and college students. Through this effort, CCI Interns will engage in the Elkhart community through meaningful, sustainable projects.

“We believe that the Center for Civic Innovation is another excellent example of our mission to improve the quality of life in Elkhart County by inspiring generosity,” said Pete McCown, president of the Community Foundation. “We are pleased with what they’ve presented to us and we expect them to be successful in their efforts. The Center for Civic Innovation is another vital link in the chain of non-profit entities that are improving our quality of life in Elkhart County.”

The Community Foundation of Elkhart County's support for CCI internships has been crucial to our ability to develop partnerships with Elkhart organizations for understanding key issues in the region that benefit from civic innovation solutions. This support also ensures opportunities to learn about careers in civic innovation for Elkhart High School and area college students,” said Alisa Zornig Gura, managing director of the CCI.

“Members of the CCI team have been collaborating with the Elkhart Community Schools on innovative educational programs for over 5 years, long before we became a center,” said Jay Brockman, CCI director. “We're extremely grateful for the support of the Community Foundation of Elkhart County, which has enabled us to connect with other partners in Elkhart committed to building a stronger community.”
