Gary A. Gilot is the Assistant Director for Community Engagement in the Center for Civic Innovation. Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Gary served as Public Works Director for the City of South Bend for 12 years where he was responsible for a 300+ person, $120 million/year enterprise including implementation of a $ 40-50 million per year Capital Improvement Program. He also served with Public Works in the City of Elkhart for 16 years. Gary still serves as President of Board of Public Works in South Bend. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University in Upstate New York, and an MBA from Indiana University South Bend. He has been a licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana since 1982 and received the Ivan H. Brinegar municipal management award through the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.
